Although not a really a competitive event, but more of a publicity stunt (each car was driven by a different TV crew of from French-speaking countries) the Grand Raid
wasn’t by any means

Amsterdam-Dakar is a banger rally for charity, going from Amsterdam to Dakar, raising funds for various charities. At the end of the rally they drive the cars to Gambia, where the cars are auctioned off to locals, where to proceeds of that go to local charities there.
